What kind of bonuses can I get?

The terminology isn’t standardized, and the names and benefits of each bonus can vary on each crypto exchange.

How to claim bonus funds?

Bonuses can typically be claimed in one of these three ways: Signup bonuses – Given to newly created accounts as welcome rewards. Deposit bonuses – These bonuses will require you to deposit a certain amount of fiat or crypto into the exchange. Your funds may need to be on the exchange for a certain period of time before claiming a deposit bonus. Typically this is no longer than 7 days. Trading bonuses – To claim extra trading bonuses you will generally need to trade a certain amount of volume on spot or derivatives. Usually, the more volume you do, the bigger the bonuses. If you use this during a trading competition, it can net you significant extra gains.

Is there a time limit to claim bonuses?

Some bonuses must be claimed within a certain time period after registration. For example, deposit bonuses must typically be claimed anywhere from 48 hours to 2 weeks after registering your account and/or depositing your first funds.

Can I deposit money, claim bonuses, and just withdraw it all?

You can deposit and claim the bonuses, and then withdraw your initial deposit. However, most exchanges will not straight up give you extra cash that you can immediately withdraw. A few exchanges (and more have this during special promotions too) will match your deposits with a certain amount of money, for example they will match every deposit with 10% bonus. This means that depositing $1,000 would give you an extra $100 in bonuses. The $100 typically needs to be either traded or used to pay for trading fees. Make sure to check specific terms on each exchange giving deposit and trade bonuses to learn how to use it.

Do I need KYC to claim bonuses?

In most cases you will not need KYC unless the exchange has it mandatory anyway, but this can depend on each exchange. But, completing the identity verification process usually gives you an extra bonus too.

Is getting deposit bonuses worth it?

There is no risk involved. Some exchanges will let you claim thousands in bonuses, and even if you can claim a couple of hundred it can still be worthwhile. You are getting free money either way. Do not underestimate bonuses for trading fees either: frequent traders will have no trouble using these funds to their full extent.

However, these bonus funds are rarely withdrawable as cash. Instead, they function as trading credits, margin collateral, or fee offsets. The original deposit can often be withdrawn after a short holding period, which typically ranges from a few days to a week. Profits made with bonuses can be withdrawn, however.
