Coinbase Launches Its First Global Trading Competition With $2M Prize Pool

Coinbase is giving active traders another reason to use its platform. The exchange has announced1 the Coinbase Champions Cup, its first-ever global trading competition, offering participants a chance to win a share of a prize pool that could reach $2 million.

The three-week event will run from November 4 to November 25, 2026, bringing eligible traders together through Coinbase Advanced. Participants can compete across three leaderboards based on trading profits, percentage returns and total trading volume.

The announcement marks a new approach for Coinbase, which has historically focused more on trading products and services than large-scale trading tournaments. However, competition between crypto exchanges has intensified as the prolonged bear market puts pressure on trading volumes and revenue.

As exchanges look for ways to attract active traders, trading competitions offer an increasingly popular incentive. Coinbase is now joining that race with a global event designed to reward trading performance while encouraging greater activity across its derivatives markets.

Coinbase Champions Cup Offers Up to $2 Million in USDC Rewards

Rather than rewarding only participants who generate the highest absolute profits, Coinbase has introduced multiple performance categories in three separate leaderboards. This gives traders more than one way to reach the top rankings:

  • Notional PnL: Rewards traders who generate the highest absolute trading profits.
  • PnL Percentage: Recognizes traders who achieve the strongest percentage returns relative to their trading performance.
  • Total Volume: Rewards participants who generate the highest eligible notional trading volume. This category excludes US traders.

The prize pool starts at $100,000 USDC and can increase as combined eligible trading volume grows across participating regions. Coinbase has set the maximum potential prize pool at $2 million.

The top three traders in each leaderboard category will receive USDC rewards. Participants ranking between fourth and 100th place across the categories will also receive tier-based rewards.

This structure gives traders several opportunities to earn prizes. It also ties the total rewards directly to competition activity, meaning increased trading volume can unlock larger prize tiers for the community.

How to Join the Coinbase Champions Cup

The competition will run from November 4, 2026, at 00:00 UTC, until November 25, 2026, at 23:59 UTC.

25Days 02Hours 55Minutes 19Seconds

Eligible traders can register through the official Coinbase Champions Cup page. Registration will remain open even after the competition begins, so late entrants can still participate.

To qualify, participants must complete several steps:

  1. Register: Log into a Coinbase account and opt in through the official Champions Cup registration page.
  2. Complete verification: Ensure the account has completed KYC verification and the required Coinbase Advanced derivatives onboarding.
  3. Check eligibility: Confirm that the account holder resides in an eligible jurisdiction and meets the competition requirements.
  4. Start trading: Generate at least 100 USDC in eligible notional trading volume on Coinbase Advanced perpetual futures to qualify for the leaderboards.

Participants can also create custom aliases to protect their identities while tracking their rankings. Coinbase will provide real-time leaderboard updates and a progress indicator showing how the global prize pool grows.

However, the competition is not available worldwide despite its global branding. Eligible locations listed in the terms include Australia, Brazil, China, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Users from all other countries are excluded.

Coinbase Builds on Its Champions Trading Event in Singapore

The global Champions Cup follows Coinbase’s in-person Champions trading competition in Singapore on October 8, 2026.

That event brought together 10 prominent traders, including Ansem, Jez, osf and Intern. Participants competed for a $125,000 USDC prize, attracting substantial attention across social media and livestream platforms.

Coinbase reported approximately 71.3 million owned social impressions and mentions. Its X livestream generated 3.6 million views, while a YouTube co-stream with Booming Bull reached 502,000 peak views on the partner channel and 24,000 viewers for Coinbase.

The company now wants to build on that attention through virtual and in-person competitions. It also plans additional trading events in the coming months and into 2027.

High-performing participants in the global Champions Cup may receive consideration for future in-person Champions events. That could give successful competitors another opportunity to gain recognition and compete for larger rewards.

Bybit Launches WSOT 2026 With a Prize Pool of Up to 10 Million USDT

Coinbase is entering a competitive field. Bybit opened registration for its flagship World Series of Trading (WSOT) 2026 on October 282, offering a potential 10 million USDT prize pool.

WSOT is widely regarded as one of the largest and most popular crypto trading competitions. Its 2025 edition attracted 520,451 participants worldwide, formed 1,474 squads and earned a Guinness World Records title after 71,765 traders joined within 24 hours.

The 2026 edition expands beyond cryptocurrency trading. Bybit has introduced two additional competition arenas, covering traditional financial markets and AI-assisted trading.

The new Global Assets Showdown includes spot trading in crypto and stocks, alongside TradFi perpetual contracts linked to stocks, gold, oil and indices. Meanwhile, the AI P&L Showdown ranks participants using trading strategies operated through Bybit AI or eligible AI subaccounts.

WSOT 2026 also introduces a Preheat Quest, running throughout the campaign. Participants can complete tasks across five areas covering new registrations and invitations, spot trading, derivatives, TradFi and Bybit AI to unlock rewards.

The competition follows a five-week schedule, with the main Squad and Individual Showdowns running from November 13 to December 2. Global Assets competitions begin earlier, with spot trading scheduled from November 5 and TradFi perpetuals from November 19.

31Days 12Hours 56Minutes 19Seconds

Traders can register without meeting a minimum equity requirement. However, they must hold at least 100 USDT in their Unified Trading Account for five minutes to qualify for the P&L and P&L percentage leaderboards.

Bybit also offers incentives for squad participation. The first 100 qualified squads will earn their leaders 100 USDT each, while the first 20 TradFi squad leaders will receive 500 USDT each. Another reward program offers 50 USDT to the first 200 qualified squad leaders.

The competition is not open to residents of the European Economic Area or other restricted regions. Pro users, market makers and institutional participants are also excluded.

Traders can find the registration page and full rules on the official WSOT 2026 website.

Coinbase Makes Its First Major Push Into Global Trading Competitions

The Champions Cup represents a new direction for Coinbase. The company has never previously launched a major global trading competition of this scale, making the November event its first attempt to attract traders through a large international tournament.

Find more trading competitions

The move also comes at a time when exchanges are competing harder for customer activity, and others are like CoinEx are just shutting down. A prolonged bear market has made trading volume harder to secure, prompting platforms to use different incentives to attract and retain traders.

Coinbase has already responded by cutting Coinbase Advanced trading fees in half last month3. Now, the exchange is adding a competition with up to $2 million in USDC rewards, giving active traders another reason to choose its platform.

Bybit’s WSOT, with its 10 million USDT prize pool and more than 520,000 participants in 2025, shows the scale of competition Coinbase now faces. The Champions Cup may be smaller, but it marks Coinbase’s entry into a format that other major exchanges have used to generate significant attention and activity.

For eligible traders, the next step is straightforward: check the competition rules, complete the required verification and register before November 25. The event begins on November 4, and qualifying trades can help participants climb the leaderboards and unlock a share of the growing prize pool.
